Design calendar and diaries as year-end giveaways for years 2017, 2018

Client: Indiabulls
My contributions: Research, Design, Art Direction

The project was undertaken during my stint at AICL. I was the sole designer part of a team of writers and managers.

Along with annual reports, giveaways can be an important collateral of the brand building process that isn’t directly related to a product or a service. These can be expressions of the company’s beliefs and interests, produced stylistically to serve as visual reminders.

Process

Since the brand expression lies in an intangible space,
it is best conceived through group discussions and brainstorming session. For both years, the theme was developed in tune with how Indiabulls’ brand positioned itself, as a housing finance company with a presence
across India.

Graphic Expression

The year-end giveaways is an important aspect of brand building at Indiabulls. For both years, they were looking for a fresh and thoughtful approach to the graphic expression of the thematic.  Given their multiple marketing campaigns promoted through the year, it was clear that an illustration-based direction had an advantage over their ubiquitous highly-photographic advertisements. It was however imperative to develop an visual language that complements the central theme and the brand ethos, be it through illustrations or photographs.

Storytelling

The nature of the collateral, calendar and diary, is of repetition. Graphics designed for this form are viewed both individually and sequentially (as days and months pass). The message/theme of such a collateral must then be a common thread that weaves individual graphics together, yet each graphic itself must suffice in providing visual delight and information to the viewer, as and when she turns the page over at the change of the month.

Learnings

The project was delivered under tight deadlines and as close to the production expectations of the client as possible. In both years, it provided great opportunities in constructing appealing graphic identities.
